Dermaplaning

Promote cell turnover with manual exfoliation

Remove dead skin cells and vellus hair for smoother, brighter, and softer skin

Are you tired of dull and damaged skin on your face? Yvette Gonzalez, RN, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, offers dermaplaning at her practice, Sage Wellness, and Medspa, located in Plantation, Florida. Dermaplaning is a non-surgical treatment that Ms. Gonzalez uses to rejuvenate your skin for a younger, healthier appearance.

How it works...

During the dermaplaning procedure, Ms. Gonzalez removes the top few layers of your skin to reveal new, healthier skin underneath. She uses a unique tool for the procedure that allows her to remove dead skin cells and vellus hair, also known as "peach fuzz" from your face and skin.

Why we love it...

Dermaplaning is very tolerable by most skin types and leaves the skin looking fresh and vibrant. It also increases the efficacy of your medical grade skincare products by boosting their absorption rate so you can continue glowing for weeks to come.

Pre & Post
Treatment Tips

  • If you wear makeup to your appointment, we'll need to remove it before your treatment in order to get a clean canvas.
  • Refrain from using retinols, chemical exfoliators, or exfoliating products at least one week prior to your treatment.
  • Be sure to stay out of the sun prior to your treatment! Sunburned skin cannot be treated with Dermaplaning.
  • Have a big event coming up? Allow yourself at least 3 days between your Dermplane and your big event in case you experience any redness.
  • You can apply makeup after treatment, but you may just love the natural glow of your skin and feel great without!
  • Avoid the use of retinols, chemical exfoliators, or other exfolliating products for one week after your treatment.
  • You may receive injectable services 72 hours after your Dermaplane treatment if you would like.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the treatment experience like?

Before the procedure, Ms. Gonzalez may apply a numbing cream to your face to help with the slight discomfort you may feel. She does this about an hour before your treatment if needed.

During the dermaplaning procedure, Ms. Gonzalez uses a particular instrument called a dermatome to remove dead skin cells from the top layers of your skin.

The dermatome is like a tiny razor with a blade that moves around, allowing Ms. Gonzalez to quickly and efficiently remove skin cells and hair from your face. The dermatome removes the top few layers of your skin to reveal new, healthier skin underneath.

What Can I Expect After My Treatment?

After the procedure, Ms. Gonzalez applies a cooling cream to reduce redness and stinging. Your skin may be red for a few hours, but that subsides, revealing a brighter, more youthful complexion.

Is Treatment Safe?

Dermaplaning is extremely safe when performed by an properly trained skincare professional like Ms. Gonzalez. There is no more risk to the skin than when you shave your legs. There is also no downtime associated with this procedure.

Will dermaplaning make the hair on my face grow back thicker and darker?

Rest assured – your hair will NOT change after this procedure! Vellus hair is different than terminal hair. Vellus hair is found on most areas of the body except your palms, soles, lips and more and is much different than terminal hair (the hair on your scalp, underarms, and more). The soft and fine “peach fuzz” hair grows back at the same rate and texture.

How often can I get this treatment done?

Dermaplaning can safely be performed every 3-4 weeks. The treatment itself removes approximately 21 days worth of dead skin so it is important to let your skin rejuvenate before your next appointment.

What Should I Avoid After Treatment?

After your treatment: no exfoliation! Your skin may be more sensitive after a Dermaplaning procedure, so letting it rest for a one week after treatment is best. Also, don’t forget your SPF!

Can I Go Back To Work After My Treatment?

You sure can! The great thing about this treatment is there’s virtually no downtime. Just be ready – your coworkers are going to want to know how you got your glow!

When Will I See Results?

Immediately!

How Long Will My Results Last?

Results from dermaplaning are temporary, but will last you about 3-4 weeks. This time is about how long it takes the skin to complete a rejuvenation cycle. Dead skin cells will continue to build over time, and vellus haris are constantly growing.
