Thinning hair isn’t something that only affects men — women also suffer from bald patches and hair loss. If you’re concerned about hair loss, Yvette Gonzalez, RN, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, offers platelet-rich plasma (PRP) hair restoration at her practice, Sage Wellness and Medspa. Located in Plantation, Florida, Sage Wellness and Medspa offers several cosmetic and aesthetic treatments, including PRP for hair loss, to allow you to boost your confidence.

How it works...

PRP hair restoration is an FDA-approved treatment that promotes hair growth by harnessing the growth factors in your body’s platelets. Your blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge until the growth factors are separated. That plasma is then injected into the scalp, or targeted to thinning areas, to bathe hair follicles in healing growth factors that stimulate fresh hair growth and plump up hair volume.

Why we love it...

This non-surgical, no-downtime treatment is an all-natural way to rejuvenate hair follicles and stimulate new growth using your body's own nourishing plasma. It's a safe, effective service that promotes lusher, stronger locks.

Treatable Conditions

  • Postpartum Hair Loss

The increased estrogen during pregnancy protects hair loss, resulting in thicker hair. Once the baby is born, that hair goes back to its normal growth cycle and starts to shed—resulting in a higher than average amount of hair loss. PRP Hair Restoration can restore hair growth during these 3-12 months postpartum where hair loss is common.

  • Androgenetic Alopecia

Androgenetic Alopecia, also commonly known as male or female pattern baldness, is a common hereditary condition. By utilizing PRP injections on the areas where the bald spots have occurred, we can achieve remarkable results without any adverse effects—restoring both hair and confidence in our patients!

  • Natural Hair Loss From Aging

As you (and your hair) age, it is natural to experience changes in color, texture, and overall hair thickness. With regular maintenance treatments with PRP for Hair Restoration we can combat this natural thinning of the hair and keep your hair healthy and looking great as you age.

  • Slow Hair Growth

Struggling to grow your hair out? While most men and women grow hair at a rate of 1/2 an inch per month, others may have hair that grows slower or stops at a certain length. PRP can provide the boost you need to grow long, beautiful hair.

  • Styling-Related Hair Loss

If you've spent years putting your hair in tight buns or ponytails, you may notice a very specific pattern of hair loss due to tension caused by styling. PRP can restore your hair and treat patches of baldness or hair thinning.

Pre- & Post-Treatment Tips

  • Avoid alcoholic beverages the night before your appointment. It can make skin more susceptible to bruising.

  • It's best to avoid aspirin and NSAIDs (Advil, Motrin, Aleve) for a week before your treatment to help reduce bruising.

  • If taken pre-treatment, Arnica and Bromelain can help reduce post-treatment swelling and bruising. You can also take Tylenol.

  • Please arrive with freshly washed hair the day of your appointment, and skip any styling products.

  • You may wash hair 6 hours after treatment with a gentle cleanser, however avoid hair products and harsh chemicals for 24 hours if possible.

  • Do not color or chemically treat hair for at least 72 hours after your appointment.

FAQs

When Will I See Results?

You can expect to see hair growth in about 3-6 months. It's important that you complete the series of appointments – most people need 3 treatments, spaced about 4 weeks apart, then two more spaced 3 months apart. Maintenance appointments are recommended every 4-6 months for best results. Our health care specialist will come up with a plan that's right for you.

How Long Will My Results Last?

While not permanent, visible results build over time, and can be maintained with periodic maintenance sessions after your initial series is completed. Results typically last from 18 months, up to 2 years.

Are There Any Side Effects?

You may experience some pain or swelling following your treatment. Acetaminophen can help reduce any pain.

Is Treatment Painful?

The scalp is a sensitive area, so there will be a slight stinging sensation at the injection site—most clients describe this as “pressure” or “pinching.” Don't worry - we'll pace each injection out as much as you'd like, and even provide a small stress ball for you to squeeze! We also may provide you with scalp numbing to make your procedure as painless and comfortable as possible.

Am I A Candidate?

Most healthy adults are eligible to receive this natural, safe, and effective treatment. You may be an ideal candidate if your hair is thinning, have been diagnosed with alopecia, or are unresponsive to other hair loss treatments. We can help you determine if you are an ideal candidate during your consultation.

How Does PRP Work?

PRP is a form of regenerative medicine Ms. Gonzalez uses to promote new hair growth. This treatment is successful because it uses your platelets and plasma to stimulate your body’s healing response. The platelets are one of the cells that comprise your blood, along with red and white blood cells and plasma. Ms. Gonzalez uses your platelets because they carry influential growth factors that stimulate your body to regrow thinning hair. Ms. Gonzales uses a three-step process during PRP hair restoration, which includes drawing your blood, spinning it into PRP concentrate, and injecting the PRP into your scalp, where you need new growth.

Can I Go Back To Work Afterwards?

Yes! You can go back to the office after your treatment—we just ask that you don't wear a hat.

Can I Get This While Pregnant or Nursing?

No, you cannot receive this treatment while you're pregnant or nursing.
